I'm going to keep this person's name anonymous, but I'm sure this is probably something that you can relate to...
The
temptation to overeat is ingrained in everyone, and we all do it
from time to time...
...Even Me!
But rather than beating yourself up for eating too
much, realize that it's normal - Forgive Yourself, Correct, and Continue
- "Start Again" for your very next meal.
One
strategy that I find very helpful for myself and my personal coaching
students is to not put any limits on yourself when it comes "junk food".
So, if I'm craving something I'll satisfy that craving right away with a small
portion of whatever food I'm craving in order to can nip the craving
while it's still small, before it gets out of control.
For
example, let's say I want to have pizza - I'm going to eat some pizza.
I'm not going to put it off and let the craving build and build.
But
how I'll do it is to first fill up on some lean protein and veggies
first (such as a large garden salad with a chopped up chicken breast
added in) to take the edge off my hunger - then I'll go ahead and enjoy 1 or 2 slices
of pizza.
By the time I've eaten all that food volume, my belly will feel full, and I've satisfied my pizza craving in the
process without going overboard.
Now
you can replace the pizza with any "junk food" you're craving.
Give yourself
permission to enjoy a small serving of whatever it is you want, but do so
after you've eaten some protein and veggies first.
Ironically,
when you know you can eat "junk food" whenever you want, you actually
want it less.
Compared to when you try and place limitations on yourself
and keep saying:
"I'm not allowed to eat that".
It's a reverse psychology
approach, but it really does work.
I made a video a while back going into detail explaining how you can use this strategy to help avoid uncontrollable binge eating that you can watch below...
