Calories In VS Calories Out... It's the secret to weight loss right?
...The only problem is Counting Calories isn't accurate!
Did you know that nutrition labels are legally allowed to be off by 20% ?
For example, if you see a food item listed as 100 calories - it could be 80 calories, or it could be 120 calories, and that's what's "legally" allowed...
But how many food items are outside of this 20% legal range?
...it's not like there's a team of Food Police giving out tickets for exceeding the calorie counts on a nutrition label.
When it comes to restaurant meals - it's even worse...
The FDA gives restaurants A LOT of leeway: There's no regulation on how much the calories listed on a menu can vary from what's actually in the dish - their rule is they only have to be "reasonable" (what ever that means)...
Most of the restaurants say they calculate calorie counts based on an average meals. but averages can vary A LOT.
Bottom Line - you can't always trust the calorie counts. So, if you are crunching the numbers in My Fitness Pal and think you're in a calorie deficit, but you're still not losing weight - then I'm sorry to tell you this, but you are NOT in a calorie deficit!
Either your calories consumed is too high, or your calorie expenditure is too low, or a combination of both.
