| Hey Friend,
The Bent Over Barbell Row work great for building size and strength throughout the entire back. It's especially good for adding thickness and mass to the lats.
However, a lot of people find bent over rows hard on the lower back due to the fact that you have to bend over so far at the waist in order to properly perform the movement. In addition to that it, bending over at the waist can hinder your breathing during the exercise.
But there is a bent over row variation that you can do that works the same muscles, in the same movement pattern, without placing excess strain on the lower back... And that is the bent over cable row.
Doing your bent over rows from a low pulley cable will allow you to stand more upright as you row because the resistance of the cable is at a 45 degree angle - vs - vertically up and down as when lifting a barbell.
This small change can make the rowing movement a lot more comfortable to perform while still providing a very effective muscle building back workout. |
