NOTE: I'm 5'7 tall and 175 lbs.
I'm very pleased with how things turned out, and this was actually the "easiest" contest prep that I ever did since I started competing as a teenager back in 1995.
Over the past 7 months I've only lost 20 lbs. which is not much by "dieting" standards. It works out to losing less than 1 pound per week. And I think most people would agree that pretty much anyone could lose between 0.5 to 1 pound per week with some modest effort - if they really wanted to.
My whole philosophy towards fitness and nutrition has changed dramatically over the last several years. I no longer stress myself out over trying to be "perfect", these days I know that I just have to be "Good Enough, But Good Enough Consistently". When I screw up, have a cheat meal, miss a workout, etc. I don't beat myself up over it, throw in the towel, and quit... Like so many guys do when they get off track.
Instead, I just forgive myself, correct, and continue... It's ok to screw up, everyone does. All you have to do is make sure to "Start Again" for your very next meal, or very next workout, and keep moving forward - even if it's just baby steps forward.
The secret to fat loss success isn't going hungry and trying to see how much torture you can put yourself through. It's all about having a sustainable plan of enjoyable eating and exercise and making it part of your lifestyle so you can eventually get to your desired outcome.
That's what my whole Muscle After 40 Blueprint Coaching Program is all about.
Granted it will take longer, to reach your goals this way, but the fat loss progress you make is progress you can keep because it's sustainable and enjoyable... No more Yo-Yo dieting and rebound weight gain... It's all about living a lean healthy lifestyle!
