Polish Technological Platform on Photonics

Wiktor Lewandowski, professor at the Faculty of Chemistry at the University of Warsaw, has been awarded the NCN Prize 2024 in the area of science and technology. He specialises in photonics and materials chemistry and was awarded the prize for his groundbreaking technique for producing chiral photonic nanomaterials.

At the October General Assembly, members of PPTF have elected a President, a Board and an Audit Committee for the term 2024-26. Anna Szerling, representing Łukasiewicz-IMIF, was elected President of the Board of PPTF. We congratulate Ms President, the members of the Board and the Audit Committee on their election!

Four pilot lines for new semiconductor technologies were established as part of the implementation of the European Chips Act. A consortium has just been selected to create a fifth pilot line: for advanced photonic integrated circuits (PICs). The winning PIXEurope consortium includes the Warsaw University of Technology, which is developing mid-infrared PIC technologies.

Solaris Laser, a manufacturer of laser marking machines that is part of the Dover Corporation, is building a new plant near Warsaw. Industrial marking printers will be manufactured in Kajetany, and a research and development centre will also be located there. The Optics Section of the Polish Physical Society (PTF) awards a prize for the best thesis in optics and photonics. This includes experimental, theoretical and mixed-method papers on new phenomena, modelling, simulation, design, manufacturing technology and applications of optical materials and systems. Adam Piotrowski, CEO of VIGO Photonics, was a member of an independent expert group that - on request of the European Commission - has prepared 12 key recommendations for the future of Horizon Europe

This October, a company that co-founded the PPTF in 2013 rejoined the organisation and the microEPC Cluster: PCO SA, a Warsaw-based manufacturer of optoelectronic equipment for defence applications. The Lublin-based startup Sendivogius, developing polymer technology for 3D printing of electromagnetic filters, has joined the Cluster this autumn as well.
