Femtosecond plasmonic printing

WAT scientists have developed a method to laser print plasmonic colours, which are created by microscopic metallic structures rather than traditional dyes. By using a femtosecond laser pulses, it is possible to precisely control the colour by modifying thin layers of metal. This method produces stable colours without the use of fading dyes or toxic pigments, offering an environmentally friendly solution for colour printing.

Cr³⁺ ions  for temperature measurements

Researchers at the Institute of Low Temperatures and Structural Research of the PAS have developed a novel material that allows simultaneous measurement of temperature and pressure via luminescence. Due to the presence of three different crystallographic positions for Cr³⁺ ions, the material exhibits specific optical properties, responding to changes in temperature and pressure. Studies have shown that the intensity and position of the luminescence bands change predictably in response to these factors, allowing precise monitoring of environmental conditions.
