Dietary fat intake is CRITICAL for proper hormone production and regulation in your body.
When you don't eat enough fats, you deprive your body of the pre-cursor molecules it needs to actually MAKE specific hormones (a specific example is cholesterol, which is needed to make testosterone in your body).
This is one major reason why your energy levels (and muscle mass) often PLUNGE when you eat low-fat and low-calorie for more than a few weeks....your strength drops, you feel like garbage and you stop losing fat.
This is because your body composition is largely REGULATED by your hormones. And the healthier you are hormonally, the more fat you’re going to burn.

                  Many mainstream diets and workouts harm your  most important fat loss hormones, making it extremely difficult for you to access  bodyfat as fuel when using them.
