Subject: Keto desserts?

Before I get into Keto Desserts, I'll be straight up with you about what I think about the Ketogenic Diet...

1. Does it work? Absolutely it does. When ANY diet allows you to create a caloric deficit, you're going to lose fat. That's the law of thermogenics. The REAL key is finding a diet that allows you to achieve that caloric deficit consistently. If that's a keto diet for you, then that's awesome.

2. There is nothing magical about the ketogenic diet in terms of fat burning. Low-fat dieting might work great for you, too. Again, it's all about the caloric deficit and what works for you to achieve it.

3. I think the Keto diet can be very useful as a short-term approach to fat loss, but I'm not a fan of it as a long term nutritional approach because of how it completely eliminates major food groups. I'm more a fan of a cyclical approach to dieting.

4. Staying in ketosis can be very challenging...to really know if you are in ketosis or not, you need to monitor your blood sugar and pee on ketone strips (which change color if there are ketone bodies in your urine).

5. The toughest part of the ketogenic diet can be food choices...what do you eat and how to keep eating those same foods over and over again without getting tired of them?

That's what I'm going to get into next...

How is it possible to have Ketogenic Desserts?

A ketogenic diet is primarily a high-fat diet...relatively low to moderate protein (because protein can be converted to glucose in the body) and low-carb.

How is it then possible to have sweet desserts that don't affect blood sugar and allow you to stay in a state of ketosis?

It's definitely possible. One of the best examples of this is cream cheese...it has a lot of fat and very little carbs or protein, yet has a sweet taste.

It's actually an ideal keto diet food.

So how do you make Ketogenic Desserts?

That's where I turn to the experts. Because to be clear, I'm definitely NOT an expert when it comes to cooking or recipes.

Have a look at these desserts....all keto-friendly.

The book that I grabbed those pictures from is called Keto Sweet Treats and it's available here for (almost) free...just cover a small shipping fee and it'll be delivered right to your door.

You still have to be aware of your overall caloric intake...you can't eat 4,000 calories worth of keto desserts and expect to lose weight, just because their keto-friendly recipes.

You also need to be aware that just like "non-keto" desserts, they should be a treat, not a staple.

Bottom line, though, if you want to do a keto diet and having the ability to eat sweet desserts will help you stick to it, this will be a GREAT book for you.
