Subject: How I lifted a car...(funny story)
The
year was 1993...I was in my second year of
university in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada (the REAL
windy city ;)...and I was running VERY late for a
final exam in one of my Kinesiology courses.

                As you can imagine,
                I was panicking a bit...(quite a bit...the final
was 40% of my grade and if you didn't make it in before the
doors closed, you were out of luck!).

So I raced down the stairs
of my apartment building, clock ticking...
I was taking those stairs three at a time. I burst out the front
                doors
and sprinted to my car, which was parked on the street half a
                block away...

I came around the corner of
                the building...and two [expletive deleted]
other cars had completely boxed me in. I literally had INCHES
                of room
between my back and front bumpers...not nearly enough to get my
car out even if I worked it back and forth repeatedly.

I looked at my car and looked
at the other cars, paced back and forth,
and all the while getting madder and madder...

...How was I going to get
my car out of here? I was going to fail the
class because some jerks decided they had to park right up to
                my
                bumpers...

                And that's
                when it happened...I snapped.

I didn't turn green or anything
(that I know of ;), but I had just
enough room to squeeze my legs in between my front bumper and
the back bumper of the car in front of me.

So I got in there...I reached
down, hooked my hands under their
bumper and with every ounce of anger I had, I lifted.
I
lifted the back end of that stupid car completely
                off the ground.

                Then I shifted
sideways with the back end of the car, lifting their
bumper over my bumper so there was enough clearance, turned
the car a FULL 90 degrees sideways and dumped it unceremoniously

on the lawn beside the street.

I jumped into my car, cranked
the steering wheel around and had
just enough room to squeeze out around the other car in front.
                I
raced to the exam and made it with about 2 seconds to spare.

                Now, when
I look back on that event, a few things
                strike me...

                1. It's amazing
what you can do when you're properly motivated.

                2. There really ARE practical
                applications to heavy weight lifting
beyond just carrying 18 bags of groceries at once because you
                refuse
                to make two trips.

                3. I wish I could've seen
the face of the owner of that car when they
                came back to it.

                4. I could very easily have
blown my back out if I didn't have a lot of
practice and training with proper deadlifting technique and core
                bracing.

And THAT, my friend, is the moral of the story...you
NEED to know how to lift heavy things without
                hurting yourself.

                When I lifted that
car, even as angry as I was, I automatically put
myself into the strongest, most stable position to lift that load...knees
bent, lower back arched, core braced and tight.

                Which is exactly what you
need to do when you deadlift.

Now, as you might know, I
LOVE to deadlift...it's my favorite exercise...
just you vs the weight. You either lift it or you don't.

But just like when I lifted
that car, regardless of how much weight
you use, you NEED to know how to best perform the lift without

putting your lower back into a dangerous position.

                When I first started deadlifting,
I was lucky...I had a friend who was
a powerlifter help me with technique. I was able to build up to
                some
pretty decent numbers without seriously injuring my back.

You might not be so lucky
to have a resource like that...

                Which is
exactly why I thought it was extremely
important for me to let you know about THIS...
