Subject: Can this fat help you burn fat?

It actually can, and it has some good research behind it...

The fat is called CLA, which stands for Conjugated Linoleic Acid (an essential fatty acid).

Now, this is not a "magic pill"... in order to see results with it, you still need to get into a caloric deficit and exercise.

What CLA can do is help you get BETTER results from the training and dieting you're already doing....it may even be the key to helping you get past any stubborn fat-loss plateaus you might be experiencing.

Here's just a little of the research behind it:

E. Thom, et al. Conjugated Linoleic Acid Reduces Body Fat in Healthy Exercising HumansJournal of International Medical Research 2001 29: 392

U RiseÂrus, et al. Conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) reduced abdominal adipose tissue in obese middle-aged men with signs of the metabolic syndrome: a randomised controlled triall. International Journal of Obesity (2001) 25, 1129±1135

Raff M et al. Conjugated linoleic acids reduce body fat in healthy postmenopausal women. J Nutr. 2009 Jul;139(7):1347-52. doi: 10.3945/jn.109.104471. Epub 2009 Jun 3.

Now, I've been skeptical of CLA.

I actually tried it a long time ago (about 25 years ago) and didn't see much in the way of results.

Looking back on it, though, I think the problem wasn't with CLA itself as a supplement...it was how I was using it.

At the time, I was trying to use it to keep bodyfat levels in check while gaining muscle...which means a caloric surplus. And that wasn't the right to use it at all.

In addition, the CLA I was taking was "plain" CLA. There are actually several isomers that must be included in the CLA for it to work as desired (the c9-t11 isomer and the c10-t12 isomer) and most CLA products don't include both.

I'll be testing out a new CLA product soon that contains both of these isomers.

And I'll be straight up with you...I haven't put it through it's paces yet, so I can't give you a full accounting of how and if it works. I'm currently on a "maintenance" phase and not currently on a fat-loss diet.

I'll be switching over to that type of training and eating soon, and when I do, I'll be testing this stuff out and give you the full rundown on how it works. If you want to check it out then wait for that report, no problem.

However, in the meantime, I felt the research and rationale behind this product was enough to at least let you know about it before I fully test it out. There aren't any nervous-system cranking effects from it and I think it does have the potential to be effective.

You can learn more about it here...

This page goes to a video, but you can move your mouse to the top of the screen and the page will give you the option to read a transcript instead (I prefer that myself).

As well, I do want to give you a heads-up that the page and video are pretty hypey. I asked them if they had a page that was more "science-driven", since that's what I tend to focus on myself, but they don't.

Don't let that stop you, though. I think this stuff has real potential and I'm looking forward to seeing how it works.
