Pretty much every single calf exercise is an isolation exercise...this one is a COMPOUND exercise for calves.
It works in conjunction with a trap bar deadlift to put very functional loading on the gastroc and soleus muscles in one exercise.
My stubborn calves like this one a lot. If you've got calves that are resistant to growth, this one is absolutely worth testing out.
It actually makes calf training kind of fun!
