Subject: Abs are NOT made in the kitchen...

Allow me to clarify my point before you freak out... :).

Abs are made with TRAINING...

...hard training...with RESISTANCE, not with high-rep "burn"-focused exercises like crunches.

Because sure, everybody has abs...and when you get your bodyfat low enough, you can see them...even if they're completely underdeveloped.

To me, that's what "kitchen" abs are...just kinda sitting there, not really doing anything impressive.

I would rather have abs that FUNCTION...that are strong, can take a lot of abuse and work in the real world.

And when you develop your abs properly (yes, that means with resistance), you can also SEE them a lot SOONER, and at higher bodyfat levels than you can when they're just pancakes flat on your stomach.

I'm a HUGE proponent of training the core/abs with resistance. Here are some examples of exercises I use regularly in my own core training...

1. Barbell Curl Squats

Just hold a barbell in the top of the curl position then squat. Simple and CRAZY effective.

2. One Shoulder Barbell Supports

Naturally, you don't have to go quite as heay as this... :)..I've got 500 lbs on the bar. Essentially, you're just supporting a barbell on one shoulder, lifting it off the rails of the power rack and holding (use a barbell pad for this one, or a rolled-up towel for padding).

This builds MONSTER oblique/core supporting strength.

3. Feet-Anchored One-Arm Dumbbell Floor Press

For this, just wrap your legs around a post then do a one-arm dumbbell bench press from there. The off-center loading puts amazing cross-tension on the entire core.

Now obviously, if you're happy with just having abs that look decent, by all means, you can keep doing the crunches and focus on just losing fat and hoping that they show up at some point... ;).

Me, I like to take a goal and attack it.

And for abs, that means hitting them HARD with exercises that CHALLENGE them.

This is also true of my friend and colleague (and North American Muay Thai kickboxing champion!), Andrew Raposo.

Now, even if you're NOT a fighter (I'm not)...training your abs LIKE a fighter has tremendous value.

You will NEVER see a good fighter with a weak core...and likely, you'll see the shredded midsection that most people actually WANT for themselves!

That's why Andrew put together his "Fighter Abs" program...

...it's a complete program designed to help you not only TRAIN your abs properly (with resistance!) but also burn off stubborn bodyfat at the same time (like a fighter making weight while maintaining power and performance).

I've looked through the program, tried the exercises and it's good stuff...definitely gets my seal of approval and recommendation!
