Subject: A natural pre-workout supplement inspired by Jack3d...
Now, if you're not familiar with it, Jack3d was a pre-workout supplement that was popular about 10 years ago......until one of the primary ingredients (DMAA) was banned by the FDA for being dangerous (including seizures and heart failure). I never tried it myself but I knew some people who did, and they loved it... they would get CRANKED up for their workouts and made great progess. Now, being completely honest, I'm no stranger to pre-workouts that crank you up. More than 25 years ago now, I used to take that stack of ephedrine (Dymetadrine25), caffeine and aspirin for fat loss. It was great for fat loss and boy did it wake up the nervous system for training. The most insane set of squats I ever did was when I taking that stuff... ...at a bodyweight of 190 lbs, I squatted 315 lbs for 40 reps (heck, I squatted 225 lbs for 50 as a warm-up before doing it and it felt like nothing).
However, those "crank-you-up" pre-workouts come with a price...Sure, they wake up your nervous system and, when you're tired or don't feel like training, they can give you a big kick in the butt to get lifting. They're not all bad. But you have to know going in that they CAN trash your nervous system so that you get reliant on them to get your energy up. As well, if you take them too late in the day, forget about sleeping well (which is critically important for muscle growth and fat loss). When I was taking that stack, there were nights when I would just be staring at the ceiling for hours, trying to sleep, with no luck. And then I'd be wiped out the next day...which means I'd have to take more of that stuff to wake back up. It really becomes a vicious cycle. Ephedrine also got banned by the FDA a long time ago and now most pre-workout supplements are basically caffeine with some flavoring and maybe a few other ingredients thrown in.
That's why when my friends at Rootz sent me a jug of their Energizing Superfood, I was optimistic but skeptical.Having known the caliber of products they put out, I knew it was going to be all natural and made with top-quality, organic ingredients. Yet I was concerned it would be another "crank-you-up" type of energy supplement. It's not. It primarily helps SUPPORT your body's production of energy. There is some guarana in it (a natural source of caffeine)...enough to increase alertness but not enough to whack you out. The other ingredients in the product are selected based on what they can to help your body produce it's own natural energy and support your body during workouts. For example, it contains organic beetroot, which contains nitric oxide, which helps open up your blood vessels, improving circulation and performance. I've tested Energizing Superfood extensively and I like it a lot.
It works as a pre-workout supplement and as an energy-supporting supplement that you can take instead caffeinated drinks.I will tell you up front that it doesn't have a super-sweet sugary taste to it... it doesn't taste bad but it ain't Orange Crush. Once I took it a few times, I got used to it and actually really looked forward to taking it. I felt more alert and focused and I never felt jittery or overcranked. Nick Nilsson P.S.
