Thursday Night Artist Talk + First Friday Glass Demo

Kick off your Labor Day weekend on Thursday, August 31, 6pm at the Belger Crane Yard Studios (2011 Tracy Ave. KCMO) with an artist presentation by Jessalyn MailoaLearn about the multiple aspects of her work and how she incorporates glass in her videos and mixed media objects.

 

On first Friday, September 1 Mailoa will lead the Belger Glass Annex crew to create an original glass artwork. The glassblowing demonstration is from 6pm to 8pm at the Belger Glass Annex (1219 E. 19th St., KCMO).

 

These two free events and are in conjunction with her SOLD OUT glassblowing workshop “Freeze, Fuse, and Form” at the Belger Glass Annex. If you wish to be placed on a workshop waiting list, please email khogan@belgerarts.org.


Jessalyn is a glass and mixed media artist from Indonesia. Her work explores the emotion of longing in relation to the various facets of her identity including culture, gender, and disability. She is currently the Studio Assistant at Belger Glass Annex. New Exhibitions at the Belger Crane Yard Gallery

Ways to Train Songbirds: Sticky Gold Collective opens Friday, September 1, with a reception from 6 to 8 pm at the Belger Crane Yard Gallery. The exhibition includes work by five artists who are members of the Sticky Gold Collective: Ben Galaday, Padyn Humble, Matt Mitros, Danni O’Brien, and Matthew Wicks. The artists question aspects of gender, orientation, and societal expectations through a mixed media approach to ceramics, while relieving the viewer of certain preconceived notions that come with “traditional” craftsmanship and material expectations embedded within the canon of ceramic art. This exhibition will remain on view through December 30, 2023.

Belger Arts’ new Digital Debut artist Hoseok Youn debuts a collection of glass planters inspired by the shape, design, and delicate details of traditional goblets. He uses his knowledge of traditional techniques and design to create work that is uniquely his own. Youn’s glass planters will be on view and available for purchase at the Belger Crane Yard Gallery September 1 through October 28, 2023. Hoseok Youn is a Glassblower at the Belger Glass Annex.

 

Artwork by current Digital Debut artist Muriel Hansen is available for purchase online or at the Belger Crane Yard Gallery through August 31.

September Mug of the Month artist Andrew Linderman, is a Wisconsin-based functional potter whose forms are inspired by the natural world. He’s invested in enhancing the dynamic between food and drink, people and community through his work. Using an electric kiln and his background in chemistry Linderman creates surfaces that are enhanced by varied firing processes to create a woodfired finished look. Andrew Linderman’s mugs will be on view and available for purchase online and at the Belger Crane Yard Gallery through September 30, 2023.

Milestones: Belger Arts’ Tenth Annual Resident Exhibition at the Belger Crane Yard Gallery includes work by 2022-2023 resident artists Cindy LeungSun Young Park, Gina PistoAdams Puryear, Meredith Smith, and Nicole Woodard. The exhibition celebrates the culmination of the artists’ time in the residency program and the program’s tenth year at the Belger Crane Yard Studios. Terry Winters is a contemporary American painter and printmaker who is represented in depth in the Belger Collection. A native New Yorker, Winters graduated from Pratt Institute in 1971, focusing on painting. Through the 1970s, while studying nature, especially molecular level life forms, Winters honed his craft as a drawer and a painter until he was ready for his inaugural exhibition in 1982 at the prestigious Sonnabend Gallery. Later that same year he began his first foray into printmaking at Universal Limited Art Editions on Long Island. Winters became one of the leading printmakers in the United States. Over the years, Winters paintings, drawings, and prints have been featured in major retrospectives at the Boston Museum of Fine Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Irish Museum of Modern Art and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The exhibition runs through January 6, 2024 at the Belger Arts Center.
