FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Kansas City, MO – Belger Crane Yard Gallery presents Passing Moments: Belger Arts’ Eleventh Annual Resident Exhibition opening Friday, June 7, 2024, at 2011 Tracy Avenue, Kansas City, MO 64108. The public is invited to an opening night reception from 6 to 8 pm, where the participating artists will give remarks at 6:30 pm.

The exhibition includes work by Joel Pisowicz, Gina Pisto, and Logan Reynolds and is the culmination of their artist residencies at the Belger Crane Yard Studios. The past year has been one of growth and change for the artists and the exhibition is a reflection of the “passing moments” experienced during this pivotal time in their careers.  Passing Moments explores nostalgia, memorial, and how objects present a view into the past.

While styles and techniques are unique to each artist, all three delve into themes of memory and the passage of time in their practice. Joel Pisowicz refers to monoliths with his austere, vertical sculptures. His forms and aesthetics pay homage to the post-industrial environment of his blue-collar upbringing. Gina Pisto creates sculptures referencing still life, flora, and domestic space. Pisto meditates on how objects are imbued with memory and emotion, transforming them into metaphorical portals to the past. Logan Reynolds’ familiar yet distorted domestic objects use humor to explore intergenerational relationships and value systems. Collections of cartoonish items referencing popular culture and consumer products are treated equally with “nostalgic fondness” and ambivalence. The exhibition is on view from June 7 through September 7, 2024.

Belger Crane Yard Studios continues to host national and international artists through its Artists in Residence program. A residency provides ceramic artists the opportunity to expand their body of work or create a special project that may be outside of the scope of their routine studio practice.

About Belger Arts:

Since 2000, the Belger Arts Center has encouraged viewers to explore, question, and deepen their understanding of art and the world around them. Drawing upon the extensive Belger Collection, as well as a rich variety of local, national, and international artists, the Belger Arts Center has staged over 100 large-scale exhibitions that represent some of the best in contemporary art.

Belger Crane Yard Studios, an arts complex dedicated to providing studio and exhibition space for artists, opened in 2013. A range of programming in ceramics education, in addition to an Artist in Residence program, has made Belger a center for contemporary art.

The Belger Glass Annex is the third Belger Arts location and opened to the public in October 2021. It is the first public glass blowing studio in Kansas City of its scale and scope. The new facility boasts state-of-the-art glass blowing equipment and tools, a furnace that holds 300 pounds of molten glass, and three workstations. The Belger Glass Annex is primed to be a Midwest hub for glass art, education, and appreciation, strengthening Kansas City’s reputation as an arts destination.
