Melanie Sherman’s lustrous surfaces combine traditional china paint techniques with modern imagery, elevating subjects as banal as underwear to a level of preciousness. Inspired by recent artistic residencies in Hungary and China, Schema reflects Sherman’s love of ornamentation and her fascination with 18th century European porcelain.
