Subject: Oct. 24 Artist Talk, New Visiting Artist + More!

Artist Talk: Kate Clements

Kate Clements will give a FREE artist talk on Thursday, October 24 at 6 pm at the Belger Crane Yard Gallery (2011 Tracy Ave., Kansas City, MO). She will cover themes and techniques that are unique to her work.

Clements’ talk coincides with her installation, titled Blue Hydrangea, on view at the Belger Crane Yard Gallery through Saturday, November 2, 2024. The installation references historical wallpaper and ornamental architecture.

Her work explores the ambiguity of style and its capacity for imitation and distinction; its juxtaposition of the artificial and the natural; and its intersection with class, modernity, and taste. The fragility of the glass becomes metaphorical for the impermanence of beauty, the fleetingness of taste, and the constant pursuit to grasp and possess them.
