La Gente/The People: Jonathan Christensen Caballero opens this Friday, July 2, 6 - 8 pm at the Belger Crane Yard Gallery (2011 Tracy Ave., Kansas City, MO 64108). Jonathan Christensen Caballero’s multi-media figurative sculptures are both personal and political. Inspired by familial ties, his work focuses on the immigrant experience and gives visibility to the struggles of the working class, including Latin American laborers in the United States. To learn more about Jonathan and his work, take a listen to a recent KKFI-90.1 radio interview. The exhibition will be on view through October 2, 2021.

This month’s Digital Debut includes collaborative work by Tuile-Fionnuala and Paul Maloney. The creative process for this international collaboration began in the studio of Tuile-Fionnuala, an 11-year old ceramic artist based in Ontario, Canada, where the works were given their initial shape and form.  In their wet stage, the newly formed objects were then sent to Belger Crane Yard Studio Manager Paul Maloney.  Paul contributed to the process with additional hand-building, glazing, and firing of the work at Belger.  The resulting playful vessels will be available online and at the Belger Crane Yard Gallery (2011 Tracy Ave., KCMO) starting Friday, July 2 at 10 am CST. The Belger Arts annual resident exhibition, Reset celebrates the work of the current Artists in Residence: Elaine Buss, Coleton Lunt, Lilly Powell, Kate Schroeder, Amy Young, and ChengOu Yu. For the six artists, the past year has been one of reworking schedules, readjusting expectations, redefining “normal,” and reimagining the future, in a world that’s still reemerging. Reset is the culmination of a year in which existence was pulled inward--into the smaller spheres of our homes, our immediate surroundings, and often within our own minds. Reset remains on view through September 4, 2021.
