“Blown Away” Artist Minhi England - Events in June | | Minhi England, a Seattle-based glass artist and season 3 finalist on the Netflix television series “Blown Away,” comes to Belger next week! Her visit will include the following programs: | | | New at the Belger Crane Yard Gallery | | Belger Crane Yard Gallery presents Passing Moments: Belger Arts’ Eleventh Annual Resident Exhibition opening Friday, June 7, 2024, at 2011 Tracy Avenue, Kansas City, MO 64108. The public is invited to an opening night reception from 6 to 8 pm, where the participating artists will give remarks at 6:30 pm.
The exhibition includes work by Joel Pisowicz, Gina Pisto, and Logan Reynolds and is the culmination of their artist residencies at the Belger Crane Yard Studios. The past year has been one of growth and change for the artists and the exhibition is a reflection of the “passing moments” experienced during this pivotal time in their careers. Passing Moments explores nostalgia, memorial, and how objects present a view into the past.
Belger Crane Yard Studios continues to host national and international artists through its Artists in Residence program. A residency provides ceramic artists the opportunity to expand their body of work or create a special project that may be outside of the scope of their routine studio practice. | | | | June’s Mugs of the Month were created by Tyler Kimball, Belger Arts Head of Glass Department. Kimball is a working glass artist residing in Kansas City and the owner of Monarch Glass Studio. Light, color, pattern, movement, and depth are all elements of his work. He uses natural or artificial light to enhance colors and depth and strives to highlight unique aspects of each work depending on the angle at which the work is viewed. Kimball's mugs are available online and at the Belger Crane Yard Gallery from June 1 through June 30. | | | | For our Digital Debut, Belger artist-in-residence alumna Nicole Woodard has the spotlight. Small sculptures and cups demonstrate her signature style of black and white self-portraiture. She uses, “working memory to illustrate my likeness, leaving the gesture of my hand, from the indentation of my fingertips to the fluidity of my brushwork.” Her practice explores the vulnerabilities of the human condition with subtle humor throughout.
Woodard earned a Master of Fine Arts in Ceramics from the University of Kansas, and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee. She exhibits nationally and has completed short-term residencies at the Hambidge Center and Penland School of Crafts. Woodard currently lives in Sheboygan, WI where she's the Pottery Technician at the John Michael Kohler Art Center.
Woodard's work will be available for purchase online and at the Belger Crane Yard Gallery from June 7 through July 31, 2024.

Photo courtesy of the artist. | Salvador Jiménez-Flores is a Chicago-based artist and educator who, as a teenager, immigrated from Mexico to the U.S. His body of work is steeped in his experience as a bi-cultural, bilingual artist living “concurrently in two different worlds.” Arte-Sano: Soy libre porque pienso showcases the breadth of his practice through a range of media. His ceramics, glass, metalwork, photography, and prints reflect the artist’s continued exploration of the politics of identity and the state of double consciousness.
