Create and apply dimensional text to slab-built sculptures, tiles, or functional objects. Learn how to use paper templates to create dimensional text, plus learn about the multiple ways to form slabs and the best uses for each. This new class starts March 8 at Belger Crane Yard Studios (2011 Tracy Ave., KCMO) and is taught by resident artist Eleanor Foy.  Visit the “Classes” page on our website for more new classes.

Make a Glass Beer Stein

Make your own glass beer stein at the Belger Glass Annex (1219 E. 19th St., KCMO) on St. Patrick’s Day, Thursday, March 17!

Work with a professional glassblower to design and shape your stein.  Pick your colors and your instructor will guide you through the glassblowing process.  Afterward, you’re welcome to stay for a celebratory toast to your latest creation and St. Patrick’s Day, with beer or sparkling cider.

Finished steins will be ready for pick up at Belger Crane Yard Gallery beginning Thursday, March 24. Registration is $80 per person and open to all experience levels.

Visiting Artist Workshop

Morgan Peterson is the Belger Glass Annex’s inaugural visiting artist. Known for her thought-provoking, large-scale glass sculptures, referencing themes of pop culture and true crime stories, Morgan leads a five-day, hands-on workshop that focuses on color application and narrative. Morgan will guide participants through the development and incorporation of personal stories and the use of color to add depth to glass sculpture. Participants will learn glassblowing and sculpting techniques that push scale and add realism.  Bonus: While participants will solely work in hot shop processes, Morgan will also discuss cold working techniques.

Morgan Peterson is a Seattle-based pop culture artist working in glass.  She attended the Massachusetts College of Art and Design in Boston from 2001 to 2006 and received a dual BFA in Glass and Studio for Interrelated Media.  Prior to joining Dale Chihuly’s team, she managed Martin Blank’s studio, and has worked with many of the country’s leading artists.
