MEDIA ADVISORY

Premiere of Peregrine Honig: Suites
WHAT:
Beginning Friday, September 18th, visitors to Belger Crane Yard Gallery can unlock a new multimedia installation by artist Peregrine Honig.

Suites is a near-exact replica of a room in Kansas City’s historic Hotel Phillips that served as the artist’s impromptu studio in early 2015. Working alone in “temporary luxury,” Honig created a series of seductive, ink-blotted drawings that explore themes of privacy, intimacy, power, and sexuality. The resulting work hangs lavishly on the walls while a sensuous dance suite, choreographed by Jane Gotch and filmed by Johanna Brooks, plays on the hotel television.

Please note: Peregrine Honig: Suites is a single or double occupancy room with a maximum stay of 10 minutes. Guests must check in with the gallery manager for reservations.

WHO:
Peregrine Honig is an American artist whose work is concerned with the relationship between pop culture, sexual vulnerability, social anxieties, the ethics of luxury and trends in consumerism. Honig was born in San Francisco, CA, and studied at the Kansas City Art Institute. At age 22, she was the youngest living artist to have work acquired for the Whitney Museum of American Art’s permanent collection. Honig’s work is included in numerous private and public collections including the Fogg Museum, The Art Institute of Chicago, the National Museum of Women in the Arts, the Milwaukee Art Museum, and the Diane and Sandy Besser Collection. In 2010, Honig appeared on Bravo’s artist reality television show, Work of Art: The Next Great Artist. That same year, in collaboration with Landfall Press, she produced Widow, a magazine that explores the relationship between fashion and art. Honig’s work has been the subject of several solo exhibitions and included in group exhibitions across the country.
