For our Digital Debut, the spotlight is on Nicole Woodard, an alumna of the Belger artist-in-residence program. Small sculptures and cups demonstrate her signature style of black and white self-portraiture. She uses, “working memory to illustrate my likeness, leaving the gesture of my hand, from the indentation of my fingertips to the fluidity of my brushwork.” Her practice explores the vulnerabilities of the human condition, weaving subtle humor throughout. Woodard earned a Master of Fine Arts in Ceramics from the University of Kansas, and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee. She exhibits nationally and has completed short-term residencies at the Hambidge Center and Penland School of Crafts. Woodard currently lives in Sheboygan, WI where she's the Pottery Technician at the John Michael Kohler Art Center.
Woodard's work will be available for purchase online and at the Belger Crane Yard Gallery (2011 Tracy Ave., KCMO) through July 31, 2024. |
