Artist Spotlight: Jada Patterson

Jada Patterson was born in Milwaukee and has lived and worked in Kansas City, MO for the last six years.  She received a BFA in Ceramics and Art History in 2020 from the Kansas City Art Institute. Her work explores the human condition, identity, culture, adornment, and decay. Jada works primarily in clay and beeswax, and ventures into other mediums.

 

Jada has worked at several Kansas City institutions including the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, the National Museum of Toys and Miniatures, the Goethe-Institut Pop Up Kansas City, the H&R Block Artspaceand Belger Arts, where she’s currently the Gallery Coordinator. She’s also a Charlotte Street Foundation resident. Next month Jada begins a residency at Arrowmont School of Arts and Craft in Gatlinburg, TN. We are grateful for all that she’s contributed to Belger Arts and will miss her. We wish her the best in all of her endeavors.

Mug of the Month

June's Mug of the Month featured artist is Bill Jones, a current resident at Red Lodge Clay Center in Montana. He likens his stoneware mugs to drawings. They carry his thoughts, feelings, and memories. They will be available online, and in the Belger Crane Yard Gallery starting Wednesday, June 1 at 10:00 am CST. First Friday Glassblowing Demo

Join us at the Belger Glass Annex (1219. East 19th St.) this First Friday, June 3 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm for a free glassblowing demonstration led by Robert Flowers. Watch as a team of glassblowers heat and shape hot glass into a work of art. This demonstration is an open-house-style event, so pop in for a little while or stay the entire time!

 

In addition to the glass demo, Belger Arts has two new exhibitions opening at the Belger Crane Yard Gallery (2011 Tracy Ave.) including the annual resident artist exhibition GroundWork.  New Arrivals and Robert Stackhouse: Passages continue at the Belger Arts Center (2100 Walnut St.). Spend First Friday with Belger Arts—all three Belger Arts locations are within five minutes of each other!
