Featuring ceramic sculptures with feminist imagery from the long-time Executive Director of the Clay Studio of Missoula in Montana, Valenzuela’s forms reference dress-makers mannequins, kitchen appliances, and tools of domestic use. An artist presentation with Valenzuela will be held during October First Friday at 7pm at Belger Arts Center.
George Timock:
A Legacy in Clay
1973-2015
George Timock: A Legacy in Clay 1973-2015 displays sculptures from the revered professor who taught at Kansas City Art Institute for 43 years. Timock's career spans 49 years with more than 100 exhibitions including select solo shows. His works are in several permanent collections including Daum Museum of Contemporary Art, Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art and Smithsonian Institute.
The Other Side of the Street: Charlotte Street on Walnut Street
For the past 20 years, Charlotte Street Foundation has provided resources for individual artists by building upon principles of supporting, challenging, and empowering artists of exceptional vision - all the while cultivating an environment where artists and art can thrive. Our exhibit features works in the Belger Collection that were made by artists who have been supported by Charlotte Street Foundation.
The 27th International Sculpture Conference, "Intersections and Identities", will meet in Kansas City from October 25-28, drawing sculptors and curators from around the world. Fifteen students have been awarded the prestigious International Sculpture Center's Outstanding Student Achievement in Contemporary Sculpture Award for 2017. The selection of the recipients from a large pool of applicants, including international students, is a great accomplishment and testament to the artistic promise of the students' work. The exhibition opens to the public October First Friday with a special Closing Reception on Saturday, October 28th at Belger Crane Yard Studios.
