Local
artists face off in ClayLympics competition at Belger Crane Yard Studio’s
Community Day Belger Art's Community Day Open House invites public
participation in hands-on activities, professional artist demonstrations,
ClayLympics, and artist presentations. Kansas
City’s own Belger Arts will host a Community Day Open House on
Saturday, October 19, 2019 at it's Belger Crane Yard Studios (BCYS) location from 10am - 8pm.
Community Day Open House will give visitors an inside look into the world of a
ceramics studio and offers opportunities for attendees to give ceramics a try. Belger Arts invites everyone to experience the BCYS
studios, gallery and store - from the novice who’s never touched
clay before, to the art appreciator, to the ceramics master.
The Community Day Open House packs multiple activities into one day
for a panoply of experiences. The
morning begins with “Try It!” activities with the pottery wheel and hand-forming
techniques, demonstrations by Resident Artists, and tours of the gallery and studio. The “Kiln Café” will be set up for ambience and breaks
between activities.
In the mid-afternoon, the energy will amp up
as area ceramic artists face off in a ClayLympics Decathlon - a competition featuring a variety of wacky clay challenges. This spectacle will include “Tallest Blindfolded Thrown
Pot”, a “Slop Bucket Relay”, and “Tandem Throwing” (yes, a la Demi Moore and
Patrick Swayze in Ghost)!Regional ceramicists are invited to
create teams and will compete for the gold!
After ClayLympics medals have been
awarded, the BCYS Resident Artists will present the much anticipated annual
ResPres Artist Talk beginning at 6pm. |
