Virtual Artist Talk

Please join us on February 12, 2022 at 12pm for a virtual talk with Joann Quiñones about their career, work, and exhibition, La Gruta/The Grotto, that’s currently on view at the Belger Arts Center through February 19. There will be time for Q & A at the end of the talk. 

 

Joann Quiñones (they/them) is a mixed media artist who creates figurative work that explores Afro-Latinx identity. They were selected as an Emerging Artist of 2020 by Ceramics Monthly, was a Manifest Gallery Annual Prize Finalist, and received an Honorable Mention for the James Renwick Alliance Chrysalis Award. Their work has been shown nationally, including in the 2020 NCECA Annual Exhibition, “The Burdens of History.”  Quiñones has an MFA in Studio Art from Indiana University, Bloomington, and a Ph.D. in English from the University of Iowa. They are currently an Assistant Professor of Sculpture at Alfred University, NY. Sign up for this virtual talk today! 

Make Your Own Glass Bowl

Make a glass bowl at the Belger Glass Annex (1219 E. 19th St., KCMO) on Saturday, February 26! Whether you want to create a small bowl that holds your favorite baubles or one that serves your favorite dip, professional glassblowers will guide you through the process of adding color and shaping molten glass. Finished bowls will be ready for pick up at Belger Crane Yard Gallery beginning March 3. This glassblowing experience is $50 per person and open to all experience levels. Participants under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. 

Make Your Own Beer Stein

Make your own glass beer stein at the Belger Glass Annex (1219 E. 19th St., KCMO) on St. Patrick’s Day, Thursday, March 17!  


Work with a professional glassblower to design and shape your stein.  Pick your colors and your instructor will guide you through the glassblowing process.  Afterward, you’re welcome to stay for a celebratory toast to your latest creation and the St. Patrick’s Day holiday with beer or sparkling cider. 


Finished steins will be ready for pick up at Belger Crane Yard Gallery beginning Thursday, March 24. Registration is $80 per person and open to all experience levels.
