It will be just about time to let your bees build stores for winter - unless you have bees on strong crops of sunflower, eucalyptus or lemon flowering at present.
Soon, the only sources of nectar will be derived from Cosmos, Aloes and Bottlebrush. In general, bees are likely to be taking things easy and not likely to be producing much brood. Of course, if they are located within or near a strong nectar flow then the queen will lay profusely to try to take advantage of the situation.
A hint for anyone looking to take advantage of any nectar flow is to ensure that the bees have been prepared for the nectar flow to create excess and not to use it to build brood on. This is especially the case if you have more or less fixed or limited sites and similarly nectar flow events.
Be sure to encourage the queen to lay brood at least 3 weeks before an expected nectar flow event. To do so, start feeding bags or any other type of feeding method as early as 4 weeks ahead and supply three bags (roughly 750ml) of sugar water a week leading up to the nectar flow event.
This persuades the queen to lay more brood (increase brood production) so that by the time the worker's emerge and develop they can also be involved with the nectar flow event at the SAME time as the event takes place.
