Saturday 27th August - Bee course

On Saturday we will hold the Easy Buzzing Bee course for beginners wanting to start beekeeping as a hobby or new business.

It's only R650 for the day and is packed with theory and at least 60 minutes of practical beekeeping demonstration and particitpation by the learners.

We start at 8am and break for lunch around 13h00. The morning is based on theory regarding apiary management, beekeeping equipment, regulations, honey harvesting and more... See the website for a full description...

After lunch however, every puts on their protective clothing including a bee suit with veil, bee gloves and their boots / hiking shoes and we make our way to the on site apiary with 2 - 3 working bee hives.

You spend up until 16h30 working with the bees. You will learn and see first hand the bee family at work, different brood cells, pests and honey. If you are fortunate you will get to see the queen bee as well!

Honey Extractor 20-frame Experts's advice
The BEST TIME to start beekeeping is now! If you are in the Southern Hemisphere You should get your starter kit, a copy of the blue book & some raw honey to bait your catch boxes!

South Africa doesnt have much of a market for ordering bee swarms and colonies to as we have an abundance of wild colonies looking for a decent place to stay.

All you need to do is provide them a welcome home sign and decent lodgings. VOILA! Instant bee hive!

I have had bees move into a box within the same day I put it outside for collection by a customer. Some times it takes a few days... but depending on where you live and your nectar source location it could be a week or so.

Come learn more about beekeeping now!

P.S. The BIG Global Beekeeping Conference takes place in BUENOS AIRES – ARGENTINA in September.
