~The Bees Knees~!
~ June of 2019! ~ In the South, it's here... Winter is here!
We've lost 5 colonies at our one apiary due to lack of food already. This can happen during the winter and especially in-between inspections when there has been a particularly cold spell of weather. We also did splits on the recent Practical Intermediate Bee Training course which made it difficult this time of year for the colonies to remain strong.
African bee colonies have a high absconding ratio compared to their other cousins around the world. However, I like to think that this is an instinct that has kept our African bees genetically versatile and able to adapt to their environment, pests and disease while keeping the wild population strong as well!
What's the solution?
Use entrance feeders on each bee hive individually for best management and or feeding stations, which offer a more general option for the bees and can result in fighting as well as disease being spread as bees congregate together from different hives.
We've just made 5L of sugar water to be utilised to feed our apiary this week in Midrand so the remaining colonies will be kept strong and healthy during the winter time.
Vita Feed for Pollen Substitute We also supply the natural pollen feed substitute at the shop which is really easy to mix and covers at least 50 hives per bottle.
There's more details on this further down...read on!
We've helped people start pollinating businesses, bee removal businesses, honey production and even other shops - simply because we can bee more together!
How can we help you bee more?

We hope you had warm nights with honey mead wine to drink and romantic beeswax candlelight dinners during the winter.
