Holiday break & Autumn Season

It's seriously that time of year that gives any beginner or hard core beekeeper a great opportunity to relax!

As the seasons change and the leaves of trees begin to turn golden on the tips the bees begin to kick down on their production too.

As autumn comes into season there are some crops that come in to nectar to supply some late opportunity to collect and store honey.

Consider the cosmos starting to flower in certain parts. It provides a tasteful variety which granulises quite quickly. It is however not normally a monocrop harvest and so a mixture of some types of eucalyptus at any given time.

For those hobby beekeepers soon it will be time to winter your bees down. Generally speaking, this time of year any honey left in the brood chamber should be left for the bees.

Weaker colonies should be fed sugar water and or combined with another weak colony to give them the best chance of making it through the winter period. After some eucalyptus and the cosmos comes the aloes.

Bees usually get much more aggressive by nature on the aloes. So, be sure to keep weak colonies away from stronger ones to avoid robbing, especially at this time of year!

Honey Extractor 20-frame Experts's advice
The April holidays are coming up and we will be taking a break to go visit Mozambique.

As Mozambique is very much a tropical environment it also sees about 8-9 months of flowering in a year.

There is a higher knowledge and appreciation in the general population of Mozambique with regards to bees & honey.

With there being such a fertile tropical environment bees thrive almost year-round. We are going to be making a holiday trip up passed Maputo with a view to scope the potential for beekeeping development in the country.

Our SHOP will be closed over the period we will be visiting Mozambique.

Please note that the SHOP Will be CLOSED from 1st April - 14th April.
