While visiting St Sophia's Cathedral complex grounds I discovered an award-winning local beekeeper selling his products which ranged from propolis, tinctures, wax, honey and mead!
It's got a bite and yes, it is sweet! South African beekeepers have a lot to learn about keeping bees and more importantly harvesting by-products from the hive!
If nothing else, Ukraine 2013 showed me how little we as beekeepers utilise the bee products available to us in South Africa!
It was an amazing adventure!

Catching trekking colonies is a major focus now to increase colony numbers in your apiaries. Colonies should be expanding rapidly now and producing honey, comb and propolis.
Northern Hemisphere beekeepers should focus on getting their bees settled in and make final internal inspections to help colonies winter down.
Unless you have a winter crop it is wise to remove supers and provide bees with sunny positions.
