Have fun saving money this weekend as you support the Art Students League, the Voz y Corazón teen suicide prevention program of the Mental Health Center of Denver, the Denver Public Library – and, perhaps, even help clean up the Gulf Coast. Summer Art Market heats up late spring Musicians and food vendors will enliven the 18th annual Art Students League Summer Art Market, an outdoor festival running from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, June 12, and Sunday, June 13, at 200 Grant St. More than 200 artists, many with gallery contracts, will sell original signed works at affordable prices. For more information, call 303-778-6990 or go to www.asld.org. Art gives voice and heart to teens Voz y Corazón – voice and heart – a suicide prevention and mentoring program of the Mental Health Center of Denver, www.mhcd.org, will benefit from the Sixth Annual Teen Art Show. The event Saturday, June 12, at RedLine Art, 2350 Arapahoe St., offers dinner, dancing, a silent auction for the artwork and live entertainment. Tickets are $40 each at the door, $35 in advance, or $70 per couple, and anyone 17 or younger gets in free. For more information and tickets, call 303-504-6725. Denver Public Library goes all out The Denver Public Library’s 35th Annual Used Book Sale hits the lawn at 14th and Broadway at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 8, and continues 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday, winding up from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 13. More than 60,000 books, DVDs and CDs will sell for an average of around a buck – better books priced as marked. For more information, go to friends@denverlibrary.org. Hair today, hair boom tomorrow? Save $10 while (perhaps) helping save a roseate spoonbill when you get a haircut through Friday, June 18, at Salon Tobie Urban Spa, 200 Quebec St. 500-115, 303-366-4247, www.salontobie.com. Just mention Matter of Trust, www.matteroftrust.org, to collect your discount. The folks at Salon Tobie will ship your hair sweepings off to Matter of Trust, which will stuff them into pantyhose, creating “hair booms” that they hope will help soak up some of the oil that’s streaming into the Gulf. The catch? So far, BP engineers have declined the donated hair in favor of commercial booms they say are more effective. Ace can do it; Lowe’s can help When Lowe’s Hardware ballyhooed the grand opening of its central Denver store by leafleting Washington Park homes with coupons, the campaign had some unintended consequences. Some residents apparently read the Lowe’s address at Alameda Square (West Alameda Avenue and South Federal Boulevard), as being at Alameda Station (West Alameda Avenue and South Broadway). They trekked into the Alameda Station Ace Hardware with the coupons, which the staff happily cashed. Add a rug to your collection The Rug Collection celebrates its new location inside The Collection design mall at 899 N. Broadway, 303-623-4200, with a sale. All traditional, contemporary, vintage and tribal rugs are half price through June 31.
