LOCAL DESIGNERS STILL SELLING THEIR KIDS’ CLOTHING |
The Denver metro area has been home to some wonderful designers of children’s clothing. Verity Freebern, of Grow, and Linde Schlumbohm Julien, of Studio Bini, are two of the best. It’s too bad that both of them have closed their retail stores. The good news is that both are still making their adorable locally manufactured offerings for sizes infant through 6x or 7 available to shoppers. And the REALLY good news is that anyone who buys either Freebern’s whimsical 100 percent cotton play clothes, or Julien’s sassy, retro children's apparel through Best Colorado Deals can get some outstanding discounts.
Clothing from Grow, originally priced at $25 to $40, is going for $10 or less on the Grow Web site, www.growgrowgrow.com. Freebern has renewed her offer of free shipping to Best Colorado Deals readers by creating a new coupon code. So if you used the old coupon code for free one-time shipping, you can use the new code, PC10902, and get one more free shipment.
To take advantage of this offer – which, like the earlier version, is good only once -- enter the coupon code PC10902 on the checkout page when your order is complete. Freebern is ceasing production of clothing, and her “clothes out” sale has been going on for a while, so selection is somewhat limited.
Julien, on the other hand, is slowly restarting her clothing business.
“I can’t help it. I can’t stop. I have to design,” she said. So, although Julien closed her last Studio Bini store in February 2008, she has continued to design and make her creations, and now she’s selling them in a sort-of store.
Julien is open for business Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at her studio, 1022 Speer Blvd., between 11th Avenue and Cherokee. So far, she’s stocked with baby blankets, coats, dresses and boys’ shirts and pants. Her high-quality items, which have been featured in boutiques throughout the country, are generally priced from around $25 to $50.
She’s offering a 20 percent discount on one complete purchase for followers of Best Colorado Deals. Just print out a copy of this column and bring it to the studio during business hours to cash in. If you’re unable to print a copy of the column you’re reading, go to the Best Colorado Deals Web site, BestColoradoDeals.com, and print the column you find there.
Thousands of books stacked in the hallway of the University of Denver’s Mary Reed Building are going for $1 a bag from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2 and Saturday, Oct. 3 at the DU Women’s Library Association Build-a-Bag Sale – and inside the Book Stacks, all the rest of the books are half price. The sale is in the Mary Reed Building, 2199 S. University Blvd. on the University of Denver campus, 303-871-2665. Proceeds buy new books for DU’s Penrose Library.

SALES MOVE WITH CONSTRUCTION |
As the street improvements move south on South Broadway, so do the sales at affected stores hoping to lure in customers during the construction. This time, Petite Patoot, a children’s consignment store at 1238 S. Broadway, 303-733-3337, www.petitepatoot.com, has marked down 400 pieces of warm-weather clothing by 70 percent. Parking in front of the store is limited, so park in the lot just south of the store between Asian Imports and El Paso Imports. If you shop on Tuesday, you can get a free kids meal at Pasquini’s and take advantage of the Asian Imports grand opening 30 percent off sale.
