A GREAT DAY FOR CANCER PATIENTS

For the ninth year, former cancer patient Hana Kim will offer cancer patients and others a day of pampering that includes a free fitting with a new or used wig, removal of “chemo hair,” skin analysis, chair massages, makeovers and makeup tips, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 26, at Hana Designs, 1086 W. Littleton Blvd., Littleton. 303-799-4262, www.hanadesigns.com. Kim’s Annual Community Service Day Open House is designed to assist any person in need of a wig due to hair loss caused by medical issues, especially those whose financial situation prohibits a purchase.

KAZOO KICKS OUT THE STOPS

Diana Nelson is celebrating the 29th anniversary of Kazoo & Co. Toy Store, 2930 E. Second Ave., 303-322-0973, www.kazootoys.com, through Sunday, Sept. 27, by offering a storewide discount of 25 percent. That’s 5 percent more than the 20 percent discount she has offered during all her previous anniversary sales -- and that means great deals on toys that never go on sale, making this the best time all year to shop for coming holidays and birthdays. For example, Calico Critters Dollhouses, usually $199, are149.99; Thomas the Tank Engine railway cars, normally $15, are $11.25; Corolle dolls, usually $38, are $28.50; Radio Flyer little red wagons, normally $149.99, are $112.50; and Kettler tricycles, usually $199, are $149.99 – and so on for every item in the store.

Why bump up the discount?

“We’ve been in this business for 29 years, and this is just a way of saying, ‘Thank you,’” Nelson said. “When I moved here in 1982, Denver was less than a million people. Now there are close to 3 million people in the metro area. We’ve continued to grow with Denver, and now we’ve been around so many years that we’re getting people who shopped for toys for their children, and now they’re shopping for their grandchildren.

Nelson says she’s been able to outlast Toys R Us and KayBee by focusing on customer service, always having a wide selection and steering clear of anything Kmart, Target and Walmart are selling.

BAG SALES ABOUND

The three stores that make up Aurora’s East Hampden Consignment Row are holding their Super Sidewalk Sale 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26. The stores on the southwest corner of East Hampden Avenue and Chambers Road are Leta's Loot, 303-617-5668, www.facebook.com/people/Letas-Loot/1697002993, with hand-selected consignment furniture and home decor (including newly arrived Halloween decorations); Little Tykes Trading Post, 720.870.7191, www.littletykestradingpost.com, and Celine’s Designer Resale Boutique, (303) 680-5544.

FORMER TAMARAC TENANTS FINDING NEW HOMES

Rosey Shaw couldn’t be more thrilled with the digs for Rosey’s Apparel in the Vistas at Park Meadows.

.“This new development is just beautiful,” she enthused. “My store is twice the size and has a fresh new look with high ceilings, new mirrors and racks, and (most importantly) all new merchandise.”

Shaw is the buyer for her store, collecting treasures on her periodic trips to Paris.
Shaw says the people at Park Meadows management bent over backwards to make her feel welcome in the 2-year-old one-story addition to Colorado’s only retail resort. The Vistas is on the Borders Books side of the mall.
Barbara & Co. owner Kathy King has already had some time to settle in at 1067 S. Gaylord St. in Denver, 303-751-2618, and 1505 Pearl St. in Boulder, 303-443-2565, barbaraandcompany.net.
“We had our grand opening party for the Gaylord store just last week,” said King. “We’ve had lots of great comments. It’s a nice, sophisticated store in a little jewel of a neighborhood.”
King says Barbara and Co. gained its reputation as one of Colorado’s top women’s boutique through her careful skills as a buyer.
“Everything is hand selected,” she said. “There’s nothing extra. Everything has meaning.”
Finally, we’ll keep you posted on the plans to open the new Baudine’s shoe store at Aspen Grove. A “soft opening” may come as early as this weekend, and a full-fledged grand opening celebration is slated for Thursday, Oct. 8 through Saturday, Oct. 10.
