Want to hear something really scary? |
Halloween is Saturday, and if your kids don’t have costumes yet, they’re going to remember the trauma for the rest of their lives.
Or not. (Depending on whether you make them wear something you whip up at the last minute from your closet.)
Nevertheless, the time has come to be fearless! Each of these resale children’s stores has around 100 terrific costumes still waiting for their special children. And, because these are the last few days before Halloween, they’re on clearance.
Gumballs Kids Consignment, 5787 S. Gallup St., Littleton, 303-795-6557. All costumes -- including plenty of superheroes and princesses -- have been marked half-price for the last week of October. And while you’re there, check out the winter and holiday clothing; it’s already marked down by 25 percent.
Kid-to-Kid, 15035 E. Mississippi Ave., Aurora, 303-752-2757, http://www.kidtokid.com. Costumes from $5 to $15 still fill the racks of this immense resale store, and many are marked down by 25 percent to 50 percent.
Little Tykes Kids Trading Post, 15250 E. Hampden Ave., Aurora, 720-870-7191, www.littletykestradingpost.com. Costumes are starting the week at a 25 percent discount that’s headed deeper and range from a $4 furry teddy bear outfit that will keep a little one warm to a new-with-tags full-fledged role-play doctor outfit from Melissa and Doug for $30.
So much fun, it’s frightening |
Local retailers live with fear daily. Maybe that’s why they’re so good at celebrating it. Just show up in costume on Halloween for the following fun festivities.
Trick or BOO-k, 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 31, Printed Page Bookshop, 1416 S. Broadway, 303-776-7653. Costumed children who visit the Printed Page on Halloween get to choose from a sugar-free, high-fiber selection of free children’s books. Nancy Stevens, a retired professor of education, children’s book specialist and partner in the Printed Page, will be on hand to help parents and children with their selections.
The merchants on Littleton’s historic Main Street are offering more Halloween choices than a candy factory.
Details Boutique, 2359 W. Main St., 303-703-3884, www.detailsboutique.com, will do a free professional photograph of any child in costume when either or parent or child makes a donation or purchase benefiting breast cancer research. The photographers are Richard and Michele Steckel, co-founders of the Milestones project. The photos will be sent by e-mail. Daylight events also include downtown Littleton’s Trick or Treat Street from 10:30 to 5:30.
Wind thing up with the Haunts of Littleton Walking Tour VII hosted by the South Metro Chamber of Commerce. Meet Saturday night at Romancing the Bean, 5800 S Prince St., 303-797-8257, by 6:45 p.m. for the 7 p.m. tour or by 8:45 for the 9 p.m. tour, $13 for adults, $6.50 for children under 13. The tour encounters spirits of Littleton real and imagined while dishing out tales of historic fact and fanciful fiction and culminates with a half-price tour of Reinke Brothers Haunted Mansion.
