Boo!

Halloween will soon haunt the conscience of any parent who doesn’t move quickly enough to provide their child with the right Hogwarts robe or Justin Bieber wig. But fear not. Denver is home to the Wizard’s Chest, one of the foremost costume stores in the nation, and it is currently well supplied with costumes from Avatar body suits to zebra stirrup pants. It’s at 230 Fillmore St., in Cherry Creek North, and there’s free parking in the back. For information on extended Halloween hours, call 303-321-4304 or go to thewizardschest.com.

Friendship rules

Bring a friend to Ten Thousand Villages, the non-profit fair trade store at 2626 E. Third Ave., 303-316-8773, on Saturday, Sept. 15, and you’ll each receive a free gift and a 15 percent discount on one item. Better yet, each purchase will benefit marginalized artisans in developing countries. To learn more about fair trade, artisans and their handicrafts, visit www.denver.tenthousandvillages.com.

Get Sassy

All jewelry and selected handbags are half price at the Sassy Stuff booth during the last Belmar Farmers’ Market of the season, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 25 at Belmar shopping center, South Wadsworth Boulevard and West Alameda Avenue, Lakewood.

Spiffy thrift

If you haven’t visited the Porter Hospital Thrift Shop recently, you’re in for a treat. The place has been completely renovated and restocked with carefully selected spiffily upscale merchandise. The store at 2379 S. Downing St., 303-744-3491, is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Mark your calendars

There’s a moving sale at Ballentines and Gallup House Fine Arts, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 2, at the car barn at 2050 S. St. Paul St. Pieces priced at $5 to $500 will include paintings, drawings, prints, sculptures and more by historically important artists from Colorado, New Mexico and other western states. For more information, call 303-756-5222.
