Best Colorado Deal of the Week:
Hana Kim, owner of Hana Designs, is a cancer survivor, so she knows what it’s like to lose her hair to chemotherapy. She also knows how a bout with cancer drains financial resources. That’s why, in 2001, she began offering cancer survivors a day of fun and pampering including free wigs for women who can’t afford them otherwise, as well as free food, wig styling, makeovers, relaxation treatments and handwriting analysis - and a 30 percent discount on all the salon’s Aveda products.
Hana’s 9th Annual Day of Pampering runs 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18 at Hana Designs, 1086 W. Littleton Blvd., 303-799-4262, HanaDesigns.com.
And speaking of good deeds
The semi-annual shoe clearance sale was originally scheduled to end Sept. 6 at Dardano’s, 1550 S. Colorado Blvd., 303-692-9355, www.dardanos.com, but it was still going strong when I stopped by on Monday. Still, you’re clearly on borrowed time if you want to take advantage of discounts of 45 percent to 50 percent on shoes from Dansko, Beautifeel, Naot, Chaco, Birkenstock and other great dressy and casual comfort shoes.
Many of the shoes are originally $200 a pair or more, so even at half-price, they’re hardly what you’d call inexpensive. However, the exquisitely trained and extremely helpful staff will make sure you get a good fit, and that’s worth a lot all by itself. And I felt even better about my purchase when, in chatting with the salesclerk who helped me, I learned that each year, Israeli shoe firm Naot donates some 150 pairs of new, first-quality women’s shoes to Dardano’s for Dardano’s to distribute in metro-area women’s shelters.
Seasonal clearance at Petite Patoot
All the adorable children’s clothing and shoes are 40 percent off through Saturday, Sept. 18, at Petite Patoot, 1238 S. Broadway, 303-733-3337, www.petitepatoot.com. Blankets, bibs and Sugar Plum Fairy items are not included in the sale.
And speaking of children’s clothing
Denver’s biggest children’s consignment sale fills the National Western Complex, I-70 and Brighton Blvd., 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 17; 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18; and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 19, when selected clothes, toys and equipment will be half-price.
Something special at Starr Antiques
If you’re interested in Eastern Seaboard antiques, don’t miss the open house 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18, at Starr Antiques, 940 E. Sixth Ave., 303-399-4537, www.starrantiques.com. Storeowner Sally Starr will be presenting a Connecticut estate, including samplers, boxes, ironwork and other items seldom seen in this neck of the woods. There will be refreshments, too.
