Long live the disc! Victims of the media paradigm shift (former Rocky Mountain News employees, for example) will be relieved to hear that Cheapo Discs, 2162 S, Colorado Blvd., 303-691-3499, www.cheapodiscsdenver.com, is closing over lease issues and will reopen at a new location. So shop for terrific bargains with a clear conscience. On Saturday, July 3, all Green Tag CDs ($5 or less) are 75 cents, and, starting next week, all used LPs, CDs and DVDs will be 25 percent off. The sale is expected to continue through August, so shop early for the best selection.
Denny Dent piece included in Cherry Creek Arts Festival The official show poster and T-shirt for the 20th annual Cherry Creek Arts Festival, www.cherryarts.org , is looking like a hit. Festival executive director Terry Adams says the Monet-ish “La Rambla,” (flower market) by Steven Ward has racked up more pre-festival sales than any earlier piece. The T-shirt ($20 to $25) features “La Rambla” on the front and the posters for each past festival in a grid on the back. The limited edition posters are $45 signed, $30 unsigned. Adams notes that 32 percent of the festival’s budget comes from the sale of merchandise, food and beverages. The non-profit festival uses that money to support visual arts education and outreach programs for schoolchildren. And here’s another shopping tip. The widow of faster-than-the-speed-paint artist Denny Dent has contributed a “very cool” 4 x 6 portrait of Jimi Hendrix for the festival’s art auction. The festival runs 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, Sunday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, July 3, 4 and 5.
Leta lets out the stops Leta’s Loot, a home furnishings consignment store at 15256 E. Hampden Ave., 303-617-5668, www.letasloot.net , is celebrating Independence Day early. On Saturday, July 3, everything inside the store will be reduced by 10 percent to 25 percent and all items on the sidewalk will be reduced by 30 percent to 50 percent, with added discounts for multiple purchases. The store will be closed on Sunday, July 4, and Monday, July 5.
Getcher paints and brushes here The summer sale runs through July 31 at Kozo Fine Art Material, 10 E. Ellsworth Ave., 303-733-2730. Top-of-the-line paint is reduced by 20 percent to 30 percent, brushes by 40 percent to 50 percent and canvases by 50 percent to 60 percent.
