Best Colorado Deal of the Week Lee Ballentine, a prominent dealer in regional art, is hosting a moving sale for Gallup House Fine Art from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 7, in his 100-year-old car barn at 2050 S. St. Paul. “There will be a lot of very inexpensive works of art, including flats and wall paintings – nothing in frames,” Ballentine said, “Everything will be $5 to $500, and, for $500, you’d get a piece that might have been $1,500.” And what about all those empty frames? Hundreds will be on sale separately, at $10 apiece or less. No one will be admitted before 10 a.m., and you’ll have to park on the west side of St. Paul across the street from the car barn – there’s no parking on the east side. Flavor Fair Favors Fun Find fun and freebies at the Mile High Business Alliance Flavor Fair, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 7 at the Lowenstein Culture Plex, between Twist and Shout and the Tattered Cover at East Colfax Avenue between Columbine and Elizabeth streets. Visitors can learn about writing song lyrics or create a design and screen print it on a T-shirt in free workshops from Flobots.org. For the younger crowd, there will be hula hooping, face painting and other activities. The MHBA – parent to the Colorado Local First campaign – will showcase local products from Ahimsa Footwear, Dragonfly Ecogoods, Moon Dance Botanicals and Grant Family Farms, among many others, and music from Oakhurst, the Ian Cooke Band, Porlolo and Safe Boating Is No Accident will rock the place. Hungry? Watercourse, Breggos, Chipotle, Encore Restaurant and Great Divide Brewing Company will feed you. The party goes inside with sales and in-store activities at the Tattered and Twist and Shout. New Journey seeks new destination The non-profit New Journey Books & Center is closing at 7735-D Wadsworth Blvd., in Arvada’s Indian Tree Shopping Center, 303-239-8773. Plans are for the Center -- which has been raising consciousnesses and empowering expression of individuals’ true selves at that location for more than 25 years – to relocate and reopen. The bookstore, however, is closing for good, and all its retail merchandise is 70 percent off until Saturday, Aug. 14. Then, from Monday, Aug. 16 through Sunday, Aug. 22, a yard sale and silent auction will dispatch with the fixtures, including shelves and cabinets. For more information, go to www.journeybooks.com.
