Best Colorado Deal of the Week Ten years ago, Denver mother and daughter Barbara Campbell and Kristin Callahan were biking through Italy, fell in love with the Italian pottery known as Majolica and decided to find a way to make it available back home. Ever since, they’ve been selling the hand-formed, hand-painted ceramics at periodic sales in the metro area because, according to their Web site, “We delight in finding treasures that appeal to the discriminating and knowledgeable buyer. It makes us happy.” All items are 20 percent off at their sale, 1 to 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 27, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 28, at the new Italian Institute, 677 S. Colorado Blvd., Suite 100. For more information − and to see what the pieces look like − go to www.tesoriitalianpottery.com or call 303-907-9837.
This sidewalk sale is historic! Find bargains galore on summer merchandise, with some discounts of 50 percent or more, at the annual Historic Downtown Littleton Sidewalk Sale, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 28. Participating stores include Details Boutique, 2359 W. Main St., 303-703-3884; Blue Ruby Design Boutique, 2510 W. Main, 720-519-0515; Chiaroscuro gift and home décor, 2660 W. Main St., 303-703-4552; Colours Home Décor, 2550 W. Main St., 303-688-9707; Neighborhood Bookstore, 5661 S. Curtice St., 303-730-3682; Willow: An Artisan's Market, 2400 W. Main St., 303-730-8521, and Colorado Frame Co. and Savvy Stuff home décor and gift shop, 2396 W. Main St., 303-797-0861.
Put some passion into your clearance shopping Selected clearance bras with such labels as Obsession, b-tempted and Cosabella – some that originally retailed for as much as $100 -- are $25, and selected panties are $10 at Pampered Passions Fine Lingerie, 9615 E. County Line Road, Englewood, 303-346-8450, pamperedpassions.com. While you’re there, be sure to check the lingerie clearance section, where selected flirtatious pieces from Arianne and PJ Salvage, among others, are 30 percent off.
Cherry lovers, take note Anyone who knows me well enough to know the names of my children and pets knows that I love cherries. So I’ve been a bit disappointed that the price of sweet cherries has stayed at $4 or $5 a pound at most Denver groceries. So I was thrilled to find them for just a dollar a pound at Pete’s Fruits & Vegetables, 5606 E. Cedar Ave., 303-393-6247, a friendly neighborhood grocery where owner Pete Moutzouris has been offering a tremendous selection of low-priced fruits and vegetables for 30 years. Moutzouris is able to beat the big guys on price by checking with produce suppliers almost daily to select items that are perfectly ripe, and thus too perishable for large-scale handling. Small-scale shopping means you might not find the same deal I found – on organic sweet cherries, no less – but you’re bound to find some other tremendous bargain on seasonal fruits and vegetables.
