Hi Friend,
Welcome back to our Mid-Month Monthly Check in from Barany School of Fiction!
I hope you’re well and writing, or editing, promoting, or daydreaming your next books. Or perhaps you're resting and feeding the creative well.
It’s all part of the creative process.
Mid-Month Check In
How is your writing going? Even if it's not, and you'd like it to be, hit reply and let me know. Or post in our online community at Fellowship of the Pen *secret* Facebook group here.
This community is an added benefit of being a part of Barany School of Fiction.
Ask questions, post celebrations, meet friends, make new ones, and share your writing.
**Did you know that asking questions is a marker of being successful (however you define success!)? If you’d like to join and haven’t already, there’s a 3-step process because this is “secret” group. (Hoops to jump through per Facebook.)
The group is “secret” so that you can feel safe sharing story ideas and your writer’s life without anyone outside the group seeing your posts or even seeing that you’re in the group.
First, email me to say you want to join the group, Fellowship of the Pen. Just hit reply :) That way I know to respond to the next steps more quickly.
Second, friend me on Facebook here:
(You won’t be able to see the group until you’re a member.)
If You're a Novelist, You're an Artist in Business
It's true! If you want to make a career as a novelist, you are creating a business.
Well, you don't have to wonder what that means as an artist...
My friend and colleague Alexis Fedor has an incredible free training called The Creator's Profit Plan coming out on April 16th about how to design a business with and for your specific artistic discipline that aligns with your vision and mission and helps you connect with your true ideal client -- your true ideal readers. I happen to have a link for you to gain exclusive “early bird” access to the training now, which includes early access to the private Creator's Profit Plan Facebook group where you will get to meet Alexis, get exclusive challenges based on your business core values and ask questions before the training series begins.
I can't recommend this training enough, and you'll see why in the days to come as I share more of what this is all about with you.
I look forward to seeing you there!
NOTE: In this early bird access you will be coached on how to clarify the ONE element that 90% of small businesses in the U.S. fail to clarify, which leads to stagnation or their closing their doors.

Gracefully Integrate Backstory
Short flashbacks are a great way to integrate backstory into your fiction. I just beefed up this lesson in the Edit Your Novel course. If you're not enrolled in this course, you can enroll here.
Or if that class doesn't fit your needs just now, you can see the lesson here and watch the videos where I edit 4 short excerpts, discussing how to strengthen flashbacks. (Free with sign in.)
♥That’s my mid-month check in! What is yours? Feel free to email me and let me know how your writing is going and post in the Fellowship of the Pen Facebook group. I'd love to hear from you.
Happy Writing!
Best,
Beth
