Our Focus:
Sticky Grammar Cont'd
In this call, we'll discuss some sticky grammar points, specifically:
- using an -ing word as the first word of a sentence or as the object of the sentence: when to use it and when it's incorrect.
Example: Moving across the country, she found the perfect house.
While not incorrect, this construction can obscure the doer -- the one doing the action.
If focusing on grammar gives you the heebie-jeebies right now, then keep your focus on what's priority for you.
Instead, you may need to be focused on:
- your story plan
- your characters and their motivations
- your setting
- the sensory details
- cultivating your writing process
- doing the next thing to support your writer's life, like rest, relaxation, and rejuvenation
- editing for clarity, emotion, or something else...
REMINDER
If you want feedback, especially on how-to on some sticky grammar -- described above -- or anything else, send your 100 to 200-words by Thursday 12pm PT/ 1pm MT / 3pm CT / 3pm ET.
