Our Topic
Using Metaphors and Similes in Your Fiction
In this group call, we'll talk about using metaphors and similes in your fiction.
** I'd like to use your examples for our discussion on metaphors and similes.
Please send me 1-2 examples -- 1-2 sentences. Thanks!
As a refresher on what a simile and metaphor is ... from an upcoming post by my friend and writer Kay Keppler:
Descriptive Figures of Speech
A *simile* is an overt comparison — it compares one thing with another thing of a different kind, usually by employing “like” or “as” (“She’s as brave as a lion.”)
A *metaphor*, on the other hand, is an implied comparison—it’s not literally true (“He’s the black sheep of the family”).
An extended metaphor carries the implied comparison through the paragraph or even the book (“He might be the black sheep of the family, but she’s the mule of the bunch.”)
We'll also take your questions and chat about anything else that's top of mind for you.
We'll also:
-- do our Metaphor Check-ins
-- take your questions in Open Q&A
-- Laser Coaching: Mellissa/Nicole's pages; 1 more open spot: TBD. Check with Beth.
-- share announcements
Bring your questions to the call or post ahead of time in the Facebook group here.
We'll also have a good time connecting!
Thanks!
PS. If you can't attend, you can still send in your questions.
