It's a big week for new Australian Coins!

While the Mint is busy releasing the new QANTAS Coin, Woolworths has a new coloured $2 coin this week (starting Wednesday).

It's a coin celebrating Women's Cricket:

This coin is available from all Woolies stores in Australia for one week - Wednesday 19th Feb until the following Tuesday 25th of Feb.

There are 2 ways to get a copy of this coin:
1. They have it in cash registers so you can score it as part of your change when buying groceries, and
2. There is also a pack you can buy for $3 with with a sealed fresh copy of the coin.

Tips for getting coins in your change:

I've found that a good approach for getting the new coins in my change is to buy a copy of the $3 set (so I get a clean copy of the coin) or something you need for a few dollars from Woolies. I use a $10 or $20 note to pay for that. At that point, it seems fair to ask if they have any of the loose $2 coins that I can have as part of my change. If they don't have copies in their register, they'll sometimes check with other staff.

Another trick is to go in at quieter times - if you're there at a busy time, it's harder for the staff to swap coins with other registers. But at quieter times, they get bored and seem happier to go looking for coins for you.

Obviously both of these tactics depend on the person who's serving you, so try with a different cashier (or store) if the first person is not helpful.

Most stores have a limit of 2-5 coins per person for each transaction.
