Subject: The First Coloured Australian One Dollar Coin...

AustraliaCoins.org

Hey Friend

Well it's been a pretty quiet year for new coins - especially compared to last year.

But there's an interesting new coin on the horizon - it's being released into circulation this week.

The coin is called the "Donation Dollar" and the idea is that when you find one, you donate it (or other coins) to someone that you think needs a hand. Here's what it looks like:

Donation Dollar

Unlike normal coins, the Mint is trying to make us think about donating coins instead of collecting them. As a result, they're not selling this coin - it can only be found in your change.

This Dollar is historic - it's the first circulated One Dollar Coin that has colour.

The mintage could be quite high for this coin - they are planning to create one of these coins for every Australian (about 25 million in total), but that will be spread over several years. So there could be 4 or 5 million produced per year, although specific numbers are not confirmed yet.

It's possible that future years will have a different colour, who knows...

Either way, I hope that you find some and can help your favourite charity.

Officially, the coin is released on Saturday the 5th of September, but a few people have already reported finding it in their change.

Remember to use your crew to help find it, as you won't be able to buy it.

The great news is that The Mint is obviously still planning coins for future years, so coins collecting is still alive and well...

Cheers

Damian
