Subject: Coin Collecting Updates - Drama, New Mintages and Pirates 🌴

AustraliaCoins.org

Hey Friend

It's been an exciting year for coin collecting - there's been coin heists and police chases, a new face on our coins (I'm talking about King Charles, not the cartoon dog), and plenty of hype about new coins!

So when the Royal Australian Mint (RAM) Annual Report came out in October, I was expecting some drama in that too... but it was actually a bit of an anticlimax. There were no coins with unusually low mintages, and there were no corrections to errors from previous annual reports.

The coins from Woolworths, Anaconda and Australia Post were only a little lower than normal.

In fact the most interesting thing to come out of the report was what it DIDN'T say. There were no new mintage figures for the 2021 One Dollar with the standard 'mob of roos' design, so it may end up being the lowest mintage circulating one dollar coin (excluding the mysterious 1992).

Please don't take this for gospel. This could very easily change in next year's RAM annual report, or if the RAM starts offering it in coin swaps. Who knows? Coin mintages can change very rapidly, so there are no guarantees that a coin will remain low mintage.

That said, make sure to hold onto your 2021 one dollar coins for now just in case, especially if they're in a Mint set or uncirculated condition.

Show time!
If you happen to be in Brisbane this weekend, make sure to visit the Brisbane Stamp & Coin Show. It's looking like a pretty exciting show, and I'm not just saying that because we have a table there.

I've put together a big post on our Facebook page with all the details you need to know:

We'll have a few surprises, including the new Pirate Guide, which leads me to....

Big Updates...
I always spend quite a bit of time going through the RAM's annual reports, as it's one of the important updates in each new edition of our book the 'Pirate Guide to Collecting Australian Coins'. We also include new coins, errors and as many improvements as we can fit in.

Pirate Guide 2024-25

This year, we've made some exciting changes to the format of the Pirate Guide, and incorporated suggestions from readers making it more readable and useful (for both newer collectors and seasoned coin hunters). Thank you for all the great comments and feedback!

I'm really excited to share the new edition with you - we'll be releasing it later this week on Thursday, so I'll let you know when it's ready to go.

In the meantime, have a great start to the week (especially if you have a public holiday on Tuesday... not jealous at all. Haha)

Cheers

Damian
