Once again Woolworths and the Mint have partnered to create coins for the Paris Olympics. This week was the start of the promotion.

The Coins...
There are four coloured $2 coins going into circulation in total. The first three coins are for the Olympics:

The fourth coin is for the Paralympics, with a slightly different style:

The Heads side of these coins has the King Charles III effigy and also includes the “Two Dollars” denomination:

The Packs Are Back!
The good news is that they have gone back to selling packs with the coins. There are two different packs to purchase:
1x Paralympic Coin - $8
3x Olympic Coins - $20

However, these packs are NOT available to buy at Woolworths. The packs can only be purchased through:
1. The Royal Australian Mint's website / Call Centre / Coin Shop,
2. The Australia Post website, and
3. Some Australia Post stores.

HOT TIP: the Australia Post website has free postage for orders over $30, so if your local post office doesn't have these packs, the Aus Post website may be an option to avoid paying postage.

A New Coin Every Fortnight
During this promotion, a new coin will be released every TWO weeks at Woolworths. That means that the promotion will last for eight weeks.

Here are the dates that the coins will be available in Woolworths cash registers:
Olympic Coin 1: Wed July 17
Olympic Coin 2: Wed July 31
Olympic Coin 3: Wed August 14
Paralympic Coin: Wed August 28

Based on the last few years, the coins will still be available in cash registers for several weeks after the promotion ends, but if you want a good chance at getting a specific coin, these are the official dates that they'll be available.

The first coin (with the Australian Coat of Arms in the middle and the word 'COMMUNITY' at the bottom) is available now.

HOT TIP: During the promotion, you can often find these special coins in the self-service checkout machines. If you withdraw "$4" as cash, the machine will give you two $2 coins.

Alternatively, if you are friendly with the staff at your Woolies, you can also buy something for a small amount (eg $2) and pay with a $10 note then ask the staff to give you the Olympics coins in your change.

So there are two ways to get the coins:
- Receive them at face value in your change as they're released through Woolworths, and
- Buy the coins in packs, which works out to about $6.30 per coin (or $8 for the Paralympic coin).
