Subject: Coin Collecting Update - New Coins Out This Week (Plus Warnings & Tips) ...

AustraliaCoins.org

Hey Friend

As you probably know, there are 2 big coin releases happening this week:
1. The AFL $1 coins at Australia Post, and
2. The Vegemite $2 coins at Woolworths.

Here's what you need to know about each of the promotions...

AFL $1 Coins - Australia Post
This AFL set includes one coin for each of the 18 AFL teams:

Then there are 2 more coins - one each for the AFL & AFLW premierships:

AFL Premiership Coins

These 2 coins are very hard to tell apart - my local Post Office didn't even know there were 2 different coins, as the differences are very subtle:

Unlike the alphabet sets in the past, only these two premiership coins will be available in cash registers at Australia Post. You have to buy the tube or individual coins to get the rest of the set. The tubes are $45 (with all 20 coins and a folder).

One in ten of the tubes includes coloured versions of the premiership coins. The other 9 tubes include the 2 non-coloured coins above.

Just to confirm - one in ten of the tubes includes BOTH of the coloured coins:

If you don’t want to buy the tube, the individual team coins are available to buy at $5 each.

The Heads side of these coins has the 2023 Commemorative Queen Elizabeth design (not King Charles yet) with the “1 Dollar” denomination:

Commemorative Heads Side - One Dollar

The tubes/single coins were available to buy from Monday 15 May at Australia Post stores and online.

As with the alphabet sets in previous years, people are very keen to get the coloured coins, so they're likely to open tubes and then dump the coins they don't want back into circulation.

That means that even though the Post Office is not putting the team coins into circulation, keep an eye out for them in your change during and after the promotion period.

Quick Warning - Some people have reported that their tubes are missing the sticky tape. The tubes should have sticky tape at the top (sealing the lid on). So if you buy a roll that is advertised as new/sealed, but is missing the sticky tape around the top, then dounble-check that correct coins are included.

Vegemite $2 coins - Woolworths
This week, there is also a new promotion starting at Woolworths with Vegemite-themed coloured $2 coins.

The promotion is meant to start on Wednesday (May 17), but many Woolworths stores have already put these coins into their tills.

There are three coloured $2 coins being released over three weeks - this week, the first coin has a yellow circle around a jar of Vegemite:

Commemorative Heads Side - One Dollar

Like the AFL coins, the Heads side of these coins has the 2023 Commemorative Queen Elizabeth design (again, no King Charles) with the “2 Dollars” denomination:

Commemorative Heads Side - Two Dollars

As you can see, I have already received one of these coins. Lots of people have reported finding these coins in their change at Woolworths.

Over the next 3 weeks, there will be 2 other coins - one with a black circle and then finally one with a red circle.

Unfortunately, there is no pack to buy all 3 coins. You need to find these coins in your change.

The good news is that you can often find them in the self-serve-checkout machines. So if you withdraw "$4" as cash, the machine will give you two $2 coins. During the promotion over the next 3 or so weeks, you are very likely to find these coins in the self-service checkout machines. Of course, you can also ask the checkout staff as well.

If you can't find them in your local Woolies store(s), ask friends & family around the country to check their stores for you as well.

Good hunting - I hope that you have fun chasing these coins for your collection. If you find any interesting errors or other info about these coins, please let me know!

Cheers

Damian
