Subject: 🎾Coin Collecting Update - New Australian Open Tennis Coins This Week... 🎾
Hey Friend
Happy New Year! I hope you've had a great start to 2025.
New coins are being released earlier than usual this year. This week (Wednesday, January 15), there are a couple of new coins being released by Australia Post to celebrate the Australian Open Tennis event.
Two of these coins are going into circulation - they are coloured $2 coins.
This is what the two circulated coins will look like - one for the men's tournament:
and one for the women's tournament:
(these images are from the Australia Post website)
There are 3 parts to the promotion:
- There are two $2 coins going into circulation - one for the men's tournament and one for the women's tournament.
- You can get these coins in change when you pay with cash at participating post offices.
- This promotion will run from Wednesday, January 15 until Sunday, February 16 2025.
- You can buy the two coins in folders
- It's $12 per folder, and the coins in these folders have an envelope privy mark
(so they're slightly different to the coins that you will receive in your change). - One-in-every-ten folders have a special coin with a 'green' tennis ball.
- There is a PNC for both of the coins.
- It's $27 for each PNC,
- However, the PNCs only include the coins that are going into circulation (ie without a privy mark).
So, there are four $2 coins in total:
- Men's coloured coin: dark blue tennis ball (available both with and without privy mark)
- Women's coloured coin: light blue tennis ball (available both with and without privy mark)
- Special Men's coin: green tennis ball (only available with privy mark)
- Special Women's coin: green tennis ball (only available with privy mark)
This photo is from a catalogue that was delivered to our house. Sorry for the low quality image - it's the only official image I've seen for these "special" coins.
From what I can tell, the ONLY difference between the special 1-in-10 coin and the other 9-in-10 coins is the colour of the tennis ball. All coins in the $12 folder have envelope privy marks.
The Australia Post site won't let you buy them until the day of release (Jan 15), but it might be worth checking with your local post office whether they are going to stock these coins. From what I gather, only some post offices will actually have them in stock.
Here's a page that has more info on the promotion:

Happy hunting and please reply if you have any questions or learn anything interesting about this promotion.
Cheers
Damian
