Friend -
Alright, I confess. I am a nesophile... addicted to nesophilia. It’s not on any list of psychiatric disorders, however. The term was invented – a “neologism” – by one of the 20th century’s most eminent philosophers, Sir Isaiah Berlin (1909-1997) in 1938 while in Ireland. He combined the Greek word nesos – island, with philia – love, and declared he was a nesophile – a lover of islands. That’s me.
This June, we'll be taking a small group of our travelers to three very beautiful islands which are conveniently located between the U.S. and Portugal. This means only a four hour direct flight from Boston!
The expedition is called "Atlantic Paradises" because these islands are spectacularly beautiful -- yet each one is distinctive.
We meet on Friday, June 24th and we explore Madeira first, then two of the nine islands in the Azores. We stay in marvelous secluded resorts and dine on delicious cuisine, and experience these cultures -- all with such captivating scenic beauty until we depart on Saturday, July 2nd.
Anyone in normal good health can participate and enjoy. (There is currently no vaccine required, only a negative test.) There's always something relaxing to do -- with adventurous activities for those who are interested!
Rather than more words, just take a look at these photos. This week I'm featuring San Miguel in the Azores. You'll get more photos and details to join by clicking the buttons.
Enjoy and let me know - it will fill up quickly!
Blue Skies, Jack
